TSAVORITE

Tsavorite is a variety of the garnet group species grossular.
It is one of the most expensive garnets, because of complicated mining and small deposits.

Scottish geologist Campbell R. Bridges was the first to discover it. Main deposits are in Kenya and in Tanzania, both discovered by Bridges.

Garnet is the traditional birthstone for January and also zodiacal stone for Aquarius. It is a typical gift for second wedding anniversary.

COLOUR

Colour ranges from yellowish green to deep bluish green. Intense green and medium bluish dark green are the most popular colours.

CLARITY AND LUSTER

It is transparent to opaque stone with a vitreous luster. Gems should be with no eye-visible inclusions.

CUT AND SHAPE

Translucent and opaque tsavorite is cut in cabochon, while transparent stones are cut also in a variety of faceted shapes.

CARE AND CLEANING

Warm and soapy water is alway safe for cleaning garnets. Ultrasonic cleaning is safe only if stones have no fractures.
