RUBY
Rubies are red variety of corundum - the second hardest mineral after diamond. Rubies have fascinated people for centuries with their deep red hue and incredible durability. The name "ruby" comes from the Latin word ruber, meaning red.
Rubies are primarily mined in Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar. Rubies are one of the most important gemstones. Larger rubies are significantly rarer and more valuable, especially when they display exceptional color and clarity.
They are the birthstone for July and are traditionally given on the 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries.
COLOUR
The most valuable rubies exhibit a vivid, pure red or slightly purplish-red color, often referred to as "pigeon's blood" red. This intense coloration makes them among the most sought-after gemstones.
CLARITY
Rubies often contain inclusions, but eye-clean rubies are rare and highly prized. Minor inclusions do not significantly diminish their beauty or value.
CUT AND SHAPE
Rubies are commonly cut into shapes like oval, cushion, and round. A well-executed cut maximizes the stone’s brilliance and displays its intense color beautifully.
