Sapphire

 Sapphires are variety of mineral corundum. Sapphires known for their captivating blue hue, have been cherished throughout history as symbols of wisdom and royalty. The name "sapphire" originates from the Greek word sappheiros, meaning blue.

Sapphires are predominantly mined in Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Thailand. Very rare rubies have Myanmar (Burma) and Kashmir origin. Large, high-quality sapphires are rare and highly sought after. Their value increases significantly with size and color intensity.

They are the birthstone for September and a traditional gift for the 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries.



COLOUR

The most prized sapphires display a vivid, velvety blue color. However, sapphires also come in a variety of colors, including pink, yellow, and green, known as "fancy sapphires."

CLARITY

High-quality sapphires are typically free of visible inclusions. However, some inclusions, such as "silk," can enhance the gem's beauty by softening its color. This rare inclusions are seen in Kashmir sapphires.
CUT AND SHAPE

Sapphires are often cut into oval, cushion, or round shapes to maximize their color and brilliance.

CARE AND CLEANING

Sapphires are durable and suitable for daily wear. Warm and soapy water is alway safe for cleaning rubies. Ultrasonic cleaning is safe only if stones have no fractures or liquid inclusions.
