The Elegant Glow of Simplicity
Creativity of Czech jewelry designer Daniela Krakorova Komatovic leaves even the most demanding lovers of luxury jewelry breathless. With every piece she signs, a great emphasis is placed on simplicity, elegance and the timeless dimension. She is a real lover of coloured sapphires, particularly those of an irregular, free shape. Her jewelry is made of different gold colours in combination with diamonds, pearls, precious and semi-precious stones. She`s been living in Belgrade for eight years and considers it almost her hometown. Her new jewelry collection The New Era Princess which tells the story of timeless beauty has recently been launched.
– Your first luxury jewelry collection made of gold, precious stones and pearls that you presented to the Serbian market at the Diamond Spot store opening is called The New Era Princess. What kind of jewelry should modern age princesses wear?
Modern day princesses should, first of all, wear jewelry that reflects their character, because jewelry can say a lot about the personality of a wearer. A woman who pays attention to high-quality clothes, handbags and shoes should also pay attention to jewelry she chooses, perhaps even more, because it is more timeless then clothes. As far as I`ve noticed, in Serbia, the culture of wearing jewelry is still a bit neglected. I think that an ordinary T-shirt with a good looking pair of jeans and small, tasteful diamond earrings can be a great combination for modern princesses. I don` like expensive outfits combined with poor quality jewelry. I don`t like jewelry that looks like a Christmas tree decoration, but rather an elegant piece of jewelry that is everlasting.
– What made you change your initial profession of being a graphic designer and get into the demanding
yet sophisticated world of jewelry design?
I still do graphic design because I love it and also need it for my jewelry. One day, I started designing jewelry for myself because I wasn`t able to buy any in the forms I really like and yet, I love wearing it. Other people around me liked my own collections, so ‘my’ jewelry quickly became popular and sought after.
– Is an inherited collection of natural pearls MUST for every really sophisticated lady?
Like you just said yourself, every lady should have at least one pearl ring, necklace and earrings which create a small, real collection. Either white or Tahitian pearls, it doesn`t matter. It`s quite enough. In my opinion, whichever look you go for, business, elegant or everyday, pearls can give that necessary, sophisticated touch. Personally, I love pearls and wear them with everything, even with a good pair of jeans and simple T-shirt. I love their magical luster and elegance as well as their wide range of colours. Did you know that pearls used to be more valuable than diamonds?
– What would be your answer to the question from the famous song – are diamonds really a girl`s best friend? And also, do you think that diamonds are the smartest investment for the future?
I think that it would be very sad and worrying if I thought a diamond was my best friend. It`s more figuratively said and I know what Marilyn Monroe wanted to say. When it comes to investing in diamonds, I just know that the annual increase of their price and value goes from 5 to 10 percent, so it is up to you whether you want to invest in this way. Their timeless beauty is an investment in itself for those who like it.
– What kind of jewelry do you personally wear and what kind of jewelry do you like to see on other women?
Only mine (laughs). Stylish, timeless, elegant, classy, refined. I like simplicity, minimalism and refined asymmetry where I look for symmetry. So all I wear can be one or two rings, earrings and sometimes a necklace or a bracelet. I think that`s how the beauty and individual design of each jewelry piece is best presented.
– Compare Praque`s sensibility, where you grew up and where you went to school with Belgrade`s sensibility
in which you`ve lived and worked for eight years.
Praque is somehow reminiscent of the rush and power, while Belgrade is reminiscent of people. People often ask me why I like it here when I can live in a beautiful and ‘perfect’ city such as Praque. I usually say that too much beauty can sometimes get boring (laughs). Belgrade has its soul, a good atmosphere and enerqy which stimulate and inspire me. Praque is now a great metropolis, where basically everything works well, and it is thus a little bit uninspiring. It is the epicenter of culture, education, world heritage site and it is very beautiful! Of course I`d never give up on my hometown. That`s where my family, friends, favorite galleries and some of my hidden places full of good memories that don`t change are located. But I must confess that Belgrade has qrown on me, as time goes by it`s become somehow my town where I like to come back, where good people live, my friends that I`m happy to see.
