Diamond
Diamond is a cubic crystal form of carbon. Why we call it the King of minerals? This precious gem is the hardest mineral in the world. At Mohs scale of hardness holds the first place. It is 58 times harder then other minerals.
EVALUATING DIAMONDS
Important are so called four Cs – colour, clarity, cut and carat. Single values of each of the four Cs determine market value of diamond.
COLOUR
Diamond is clear and colourless stone. Perfectly clean diamonds are extremely rare. More rare are natural pink, blue, red or saturated yellow diamonds. Clear diamonds with yellow shades are mostly cheaper. These stones are mostly treated.
CLARITY
Clarity is a measure of internal defects of a diamond that is called inclusion. Inclusions can be cracks or crystals of other materials. Most of mined diamonds are clear enough to be used in jewellery.
CUT
Cut is very important. Stones are cut in order to reflect the maximum amount of light. Cuts used the most are brilliant, princess, oval, marquise, pear, heart and emerald.
WEIGHT
The carat weight measures the mass of a precious stones. 1 ct = 0,20g. Only one out of one thousand diamonds has more than 1 ct.
